What you will do and see: Cranesville Swamp is a 300 acre
relic wetland complex supporting northern plants . The southern most
extension of the northern boreal forest or Canadian Zone of vegatation.
The swamp is a high mountain bog formed thousands of years ago. Special
physiographic conditions help support plant and animal communities
that are usually found only in northern climates. The Swamp is a National
Natural Historic Landmark and managed by the Nature Conservancy.Cranesville
Swamp is a fascinating natural habitat and favorite stopping place
for botanists, zoologists, ecologists and nature lovers. Your tour
includes ecology and history and the boardwalk that extends out into
the swamp. This elevated boardwalk provides excellent viewing of the
bog community.
Trips are led by chief guide Crede Calhoun, an accomplished nature photographer with photos appearing in Outside, Audubon, national Geographic Travellar and other regional and national outdoor magazines. Casual learning and teaching is part of the tour and Crede does his best to share his knowledge and love for the area and photography with you. He can answer questions and direct you to some nice material or ideas to photograph.
You do not need to be photographers to enjoy this tour!
