Directions from Deep Creek Lake
We meet at the Dry Run Boat Launch at the Savage River Reservoir. Regularly Scheduled trips start at 10:00AM. It is about 20 minutes from Deep Creek Lake. From Deep Creek Lake, turn off of Route 219 on the Glendale Road. This is the road to Deep Creek Lake State Park and it is 2/10 of a mile south of Garrett 8 Cinemas (at the light and almost across from Macdonalds). You can only turn one way on Glendale regardless of if you are coming north or south on 219.

Follow Glendale Rd over the Glendale Bridge and bear right staying on Glendale Rd. Follow Glendale until it ends and T's at Route 495 (about 5-6 miles). Turn left on 495 and go 6/10 of a mile to Dry Run Road. There is a sign for the Savage River Inn. Turn right (the only way you can go) on Dry Run Road and Follow Dry Run Road all the way to the bottom of the mountain where it ends at Savage River Road. Go across Savage River Road and through the chained link fence gate into the small dirt lane marked with a sign "Dry Run Boat Launch". DO NOT TURN on Savage River Road. If you are early and need to use the rest rooms turn left on Savage River Road, and follow for approx 2 miles to facilities on the right at Big Run State Park.

Directions from Pittsburgh
Follow I-79 to I-68 in Morgantown WV. Take I-68 East towards Cumberland MD. Follow for 36 miles and Exit # 4 IN MARYLAND, the Friendsville Exit. Follow route 42 south towards Deep Creek Lake. In 7 miles 42 merges with Route 219. Follow 219 south towards Deep Creek Lake. Follow 219 over the lake and make the first right you come to at the light, Glendale Rd (MacDonalds on right). Turn left off 219 onto the Glendale Road. Follow Glendale Rd across the Glendale Bridge STAYING right and staying on Glendale Rd. Follow Glendale until it ends at Route 495, about 5 miles. Turn left on 495 and go 6/10 of a mile to Dry Run Road. There may be a sign for the Savage River Reservoir and a sign for the Savage River Inn and Log Cabins. Turn right (the only way you can go) on Dry Run Road and Follow Dry Run Road all the way to the bottom of the mountain where it ends at Savage River Road. Directions from Baltimore and DC
Get on I-70 west from Baltimore or from Washington DC and I-270. Follow 70 west to Hagerstown and get on I-68 WEST towards Hancock and Cumberland MD. Follow I-68 to Exit #19 (Grantsville Exit) and follow Route 495 south towards Swanton. Follow for APPROX 14 miles. You will go past Rock Lodge Road on the right and thenin a few miles past the Western Maryland 4-H Education Center and Camp on your right. Stay on 495 up over hill and down a big hill and make the very hard LEFT on New Germany Road at the bottom of the hill (the only way you can turn).

Follow New Germany for NO MORE THAN 1/2 mile, to the first dirt/gravel/semi-hardtop road on your right, Blackhawk School Road. This is a tricky RIGHT turn down kind of a steep hill, look carefully there may not be a sign for this road. The turn is just past a mobile home on the right. If you go past a small brown sign that says State Forest or past the Monroe Run Hiking Trailhead you went past it.

Turn right on Blackhawk School and follow for 1/4 mile until it T's and ends at Dry Run Road. Turn left and follow for 4-5 miles until it T's and ends at a stop sign and Savage River Road. Go ACROSS Savage River Road and through gate into the parking lot of the Dry Run Boat Launch. This is where we meet and depending on water levels we may be right there or more down by the water. Downshift coming down Dry Run Road or you will smoke your breaks.

DO NOT TURN on Savage River Road. If you are early and need to use the rest rooms turn left on Savage River Road, and follow for approx 2 miles to facilities on the right at Big Run State Park.
